Welcome to the California Kelp Forest Monitoring Consortium

Kelp forests are among the most productive marine ecosystems on the California coast — and among the most sensitive to environmental change. The California Kelp Forest Monitoring Consortium brings together four research institutions to monitor these ecosystems across the state, building the long-term data needed to understand how they are changing and to support informed management of California's ocean resources. Our consortium promotes transparent science by providing open-access datasets, comprehensive reports and publications, and public engagement initiatives to the broader community.
